Effective January 1, 2004, Bingaman & Son Lumber Inc established an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) and related Trust.

It has always been the philosophy of the company’s owners to share the success of the company with its employees. In September 2006, the ESOP purchased its first shares of company stock, marking the beginning of employee ownership at Bingaman & Son Lumber Inc.

Log Yard Assistant | St. Marys Lumber
(Bingaman & Son Lumber - Sawmill Division)

Bingaman & Son Lumber, Inc., a growing wood products manufacturer, has an opportunity at their St. Marys Lumber sawmill for a Log Yard Assistant. This position involves assisting with daily log yard operations and providing support to the Log Scaler and Resale Yard Manager.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Ability to scale and grade logs to our specifications (willing to train).
  • Prepare logs for resale (clip, saver, etc.).
  • Work with buyers during log purchases.
  • Compile and reconcile completed log sale data using a handheld data collector.
  • Sort and pile logs in resale and production storage areas using a wheel loader or knuckleboom.
  • Load containers and trucks.
  • Ability to run and maintain a chainsaw.
  • Seasonally, as needed: Assist inside the sawmill.

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Proficient in species identification (tree, log & lumber) is a plus, but willing to train.
  • Working knowledge of log grading rules for footage and quality is a plus.
  • Excellent time management, organization, math, and communication skills.
  • High degree of personal integrity, safety-oriented, strong work ethic, and self-starter.
  • Efficient in using computers, including inventory management.
  • Able to operate a knuckleboom log loader and front-end wheel loader.
  • Valid PA driver’s license.
  • Able to work in all weather conditions and lift/move 50+ lbs.

Maintenance Mechanic | WBL Hardwoods
(Bingaman & Son Lumber - Sawmill Division)

Bingaman & Son Lumber is currently seeking a Maintenance Mechanic for our Nicktown, PA facility. This position requires a highly motivated, dependable individual with a strong maintenance background in an industrial setting. This is a full-time position with competitive wages and benefits.

Skills/Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid PA driver’s license
  • Thorough knowledge of sawmill equipment, processes, and products with five years of sawmill maintenance preferred
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting skills – mechanical, hydraulics, and electrical
  • Strong working knowledge of 3-phase electrical including starters, contacts, controls, disconnects, and wiring
  • General knowledge of electronics is beneficial
  • Proficient at welding and fabricating
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for interacting with machine operators
  • Must be able to stand, sit, climb, stoop, kneel for extended periods
  • Ability to lift, carry, push/pull, and move materials over 50 lbs
  • Capable of working in all weather conditions
  • Must have strong attention to detail, a strong work ethic, and analytical/problem-solving skills

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a preventive maintenance (PM) plan for the entire facility
  • Monitor downtime reports and develop strategies for continued improvement
  • Prioritize and perform emergency equipment repairs to minimize downtime
  • Work with machine operators to develop their understanding of the equipment
  • Fill in for machine operators as needed
  • Order parts and supplies while monitoring purchases for cost-saving opportunities
  • Use work order system to ensure proper tracking of maintenance costs
  • Work with the Sawmill Manager to prepare equipment replacement plans
  • Perform all repairs and maintenance with safety as a top priority
  • Serve on-site safety committee
  • Comply with environmental regulations regarding hazardous materials/waste
