At Bingaman & Son Lumber, we believe in celebrating the extraordinary contributions of local leaders who make a difference in their communities. In today’s digital age, the power of hometown influencers—individuals deeply rooted in their communities—has never been more important. These community leaders, advocates, and storytellers have the unique ability to connect authentically, foster trust, and create a positive impact through their actions and stories. This commitment to honoring “Hometown Achievers” inspires us to spotlight those whose lives and work embody this ethos.
It is with great pride that we honor Dr. Thomas Krebs as our latest “Hometown Achiever.” The countless patients who have been touched by his care and compassion offer a glimpse of the profound legacy he leaves behind. For this article, Dr. Krebs, or simply “Tom” as he prefers, shares the inspiring journey that led him to become a beloved figure in his community.
Tom was born and raised in Paxinos, PA, on a farm with his parents, two brothers, and his grandparents. His journey to becoming a doctor began in 7th grade when a visit to the doctor for a sore throat sparked his desire to help others. Inspired by his mother, a nurse who cared for both people and animals on the farm, Tom’s path was shaped by the nurturing environment of his family.
Excelling in science during high school, Tom pursued a biology degree at Albright College in Reading, PA. He then attended Jeff erson Medical College (now Sidney Kimmel Medical College), followed by a residency in Family Medicine at Montgomery Hospital in Norristown, PA. The rigorous demands of medical school and residency tested Tom’s resilience, but he relied on prayer, self-care, and the support of his peers to persevere.
A life-changing moment occurred during medical school when Tom met Linda on a blind date. They married after his internship, and Linda has been a steadfast supporter of Tom’s dedication to his patients and his long hours of work.
Tom’s career took him to Dallas, PA, before he settled in Selinsgrove in 1991, working in an outpatient care unit. His advice to aspiring medical professionals is to spend signifi cant time with those in the fi eld to truly understand the demands and rewards of the profession. He emphasizes the importance of weighing the fi nancial and personal costs but encourages perseverance and planning for the long haul.
Throughout his career, Dr. Krebs has been committed to reducing patient anxiety and providing compassionate care. He balanced his work and family life by managing his time eff ectively, often working on medical records from home. His success is attributed to his faith, family support, and the encouragement of mentors and peers. Dr. Krebs retired from full-time practice in February 2023. In retirement, he enjoys camping, biking, hiking, and spending time with family. He also dedicates time to medical mission work, having served with organizations like Samaritan’s Purse, Global Care Force, and Heart Stream Resources. His mission trips have taken him to Kenya, El Paso TX, Honduras, and France, providing much-needed medical care to underserved communities.
We at Bingaman & Son Lumber are grateful for Dr. Krebs and his wife Linda for their unwavering dedication and service.
